Beşiktaş Host Marseille: the Full Europa League Fixture List

Thirty-six clubs, eight opponents each, two from every pot, four at home and four away. The Europa League league phase now has its 144 matches, and unlike the Champions League it is full of clubs who were somewhere else a week ago. Seven of them lost a Champions League play-off; Beşiktaş won a Europa League one. Below is the whole draw, sorted by pot — use the tabs to move between them.

Cover card: Beşiktaş host Marseille and travel to Celtic. Beşiktaş are in Pot 4 with eight opponents, seven of the 36 clubs came down from the Champions League play-off, nine ties are Pot 1 against Pot 1, and there are 144 matches across 36 clubs.
The tabs below hold all 36 clubs.

How to read this

Each club appears once, under its own pot, with its eight opponents beneath it. H means home, A means away. Every fixture involves two clubs, so each match appears twice below — once under each side. That is 288 lines for 144 matches.

Pot 1 against Pot 1

Nine of the 144 matches are between two Pot 1 clubs — Milan against Benfica, Juventus against Real Sociedad, Marseille against Olympiacos, Lyon against Bayer Leverkusen. In a single table of 36 where only the top eight go straight to the round of 16, these are the games where a direct rival loses ground.

Seven of these were in the Champions League last week

Celtic, Lyon, Dinamo Zagreb, NEC, Celje, Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Levski Sofia all played a Champions League play-off tie on 25 or 26 August and lost it. Losing there is a demotion, not an exit: they drop straight into this league phase, keep eight matches, and every point they take still counts towards their country’s coefficient. Celtic and Lyon in particular arrive as Pot 2 and Pot 1 clubs respectively — the fall costs them the competition, not the seeding.

Table card of the seven clubs that lost a Champions League play-off and landed in this competition: Celtic in Pot 2, Lyon in Pot 1, Dinamo Zagreb in Pot 2, NEC in Pot 4, Celje in Pot 3, Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Pot 4, Levski Sofia in Pot 4.
Lyon fell out of the Champions League and straight into Pot 1 here.
